Lamponi, more, ribes, uva spina, mirtilli e tante altre specie da frutto minori come lonicera e fragolina di bosco sono i “Piccoli Frutti”. Le piante oggi coltivate sono selezioni, ibridi, specie botaniche anche differenti dagli omologhi spontanei, provenienti da altri areali e oltreoceano, che tuttavia hanno in comune l’eccezionale naturalità delle pratiche di coltivazione e l’eccellente qualità organolettica dei frutti, ricchi di principi nutritivi essenziali e pregiati. In Nord Italia le condizioni pedoclimatiche e socioeconomiche vocate per la coltivazione dei piccoli frutti si trovano in particolare nelle zone pedemontane. Tuttavia, oggi si intravedono ampi spazi in pianura e soprattutto nelle fasce periurbane e nell’agricoltura urbana. Sono infatti coltivazioni che si adattano sia alle grandi superfici sia alle poche piante per soddisfare un consumo famigliare. La conoscenza delle caratteristiche del terreno, delle condizioni climatiche e microclimatiche, la scelta delle specie e delle cultivar più adatte, l’utilizzo di pregiate matrici organiche e il ricorso a microrganismi utili sono la chiave del successo della coltivazione sostenibile di un impianto di piccoli frutti.

Born in Milan, Italy, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, PhD in “Biology and Productivity of Cultivated Plants”, Adjunct Professor of “Botany and Arboriculture” at the Politecnico di Milano 1863, Guarantor of “Greenery, Soil, and Trees of the Municipality of Milan”.

Plants and the environment are the focus of academic and professional activity: from the design of urban and territorial green areas to the cultivation of plants in vitro, from the agronomic evaluation of small fruit varieties to the study of the quality of apple trees in the mountains, to the care of ornamental plants internal and external.

He is a founding member of the company AGER – Agriculture and Research (www.agercoop.it), member of the editorial board of the magazine ACER (www.ilverdeeditoriale.com), collaborates with the urban planning studio Urbanstudio (www.urbanstudio.it).

He was a member of the Order of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors (ODAF) of Milan and a member of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural School of the Monza Park. Professional experience has ranged from research work for the Agricultural University of Milan to marketing manager for multinational company based in Italy and the United States.

Research fields: urban green spaces, plant nutrition, small fruits, tissue culture and urban and sports lawns. Currently adjunct professor of “Botany and arboriculture” for the international master’s degree in “Landscape architecture. Land Landscape Heritage” at the Politecnico di Milano and freelance agronomist specialized in the design of large green spaces in an urban environment. The didactic and professional activity focuses on the protection of the territory and on environmental sustainability.
