Jimai Montiel Calles
JIMAI MONTIEL CALLES was born in Maracaibo, Zulia state in Venezuela, he is a Venezuelan lawyer. His father was an indigenous professional belonging to the Wayuu People, a fighter for the rights of indigenous peoples where Jimai’s interest in specializing in the Rights of Indigenous Peoples comes from.
He was a former fellowship of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, as well as a strong international leader in those struggles. He has a Doctorate and a P H D in Criminal Law, with more than 20 years of experience as an official of the Venezuelan Judiciary, as well as two master’s degrees from Spanish universities, one in International Criminal Law and the other in Government and Public Management.
He is currently dedicated to the private practice of law with his own law firm advising on various issues in criminal law, international, civil law and conflict resolution.
